B.  General Rules

 

The Friendship Badminton Tournament is conducted under BWF International Rules.

Exceptions will be noted in the below listed regulations.

 

I. TEAMS

 

1. Schools may register 8 players

 

2. Each team manager must nominate their team’s rankings to the Tournament Director 1 day prior to the beginning of the tournament. This is to allow for the rankings to be posted when the tournament officially begins. (3 singles & 2 double combinations plus a substitute player) 

a. Rankings are to be in effect for the completion of the entire tournament.

b. Rankings must in order of skill i.e. number 1 singles should be the best singles player, number 2 singles the second best and so on.

 

3. If a team plays players out of position (either not playing in the order submitted or where players are clearly out of position based on skill) and a protest is made to the tournament director and upheld, games prior to and including any current game will be recorded as a loss.

 

II. MATCHES

 

1.  Each match will consist of 3 singles and 2 doubles games

a. A non-scoring friendly match between opposing teams substitute players (if available) may take place at this time.

 

2. Scoring System

a. A match shall consist of the best of three games, unless otherwise arranged.

b. A game shall be won by the side which first scores 21 points, except as provided in Law 2.e. and 2.f.

c. The side winning a rally shall add a point to its score.

d. A side shall win a rally, if the opposing side commits a fault or the shuttle ceases to be in play because it touches the surface of the court inside the opponent’s court.

e. If the score becomes 20-all, the side which gains a two point lead first, shall win that game.

f. If the score becomes 29-all, the side scoring the 30th point shall win that game.

g. The side winning a game shall serve first in the next game.

 

3. Should the shuttle hit any obstruction such as basketball backboards, rings or nets, then a let should be played.

 

4. Coaches are allowed to coach from coaching areas only however, it should not interrupt  play. The Tournament Director has the authority to regulate appropriate coaching behavior. Coaching is considered to be communication, advice, or instruction of any kind, audible or visual to a player. Coaching will be allowed at the change of ends.

 

III. SUBSTITUTION

 

1. The 8th player may be used for substituting an injured player. All subsequent players are moved up the rankings.

2. If another player is injured the players are again moved up the rankings and the un-played game is forfeited.

3. The 8th player (Reserve player), may substitute either for a 2nd doubles or a 3rd singles player in any match.

 

IV. SPECIAL EQUIPMENT

 

Varsity use feather shuttles, the shuttles used are: Yonex Aerosensa 10 (AS-10).

 

V. TIE BREAKING FOR ROUND-ROBIN RANKING

 

If teams are level on points at the end of the round-robin games then the final placing will be decided by the following Tie Breakers:

1. Result of Head to Head match

2. Total sets won among the tied teams

3. Total games won among the tied teams Points won (if possible)

4. Sets Lost

5. Once a tie break has been resolved additional ties will be resolved in the same format using the same sequence of procedures beginning with the head to head result.

 

VI. OFFICIALS

 

a. All matches will be scored and umpired by the players themselves.

b. Should a disagreement occur, a player may ask for a neutral official to assist with the problem.

c. Coaches need to be proactive in monitoring the calls made by their own players and the opposition, if there are any issues the coaches are to contact the tournament director to possibly assign a neutral umpire
